Family Support
Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s (AIU) Family Support Centers are community-based programs designed to provide families with resources, opportunities and experiences that enable them to become self-sufficient and nurturing parents. They enable families to access various services, including formal supports (such as home visits and parenting classes), informal supports (such as providing resources and connecting families to services in the communities), and a community system of services that promote the well-being of families and their children. Such services can take many different forms depending on the strengths and needs of the family, but their overarching goal is to help parents or caregivers enhance skills and resolve problems to promote optimal child development. The Family Centers are located in Carlynton, Clariton, Duquesne, East Allegheny, Highlands, McKeesport, Penn Hills, Steel Valley, Sto-Rox, and West Mifflin.
